Abba Kyari pleads not guilty to drug trafficking charge

Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, has pleaded not guilty to drug trafficking charges brought against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

The NDLEA slammed eight-count charges against Kyari and six others, including four members of the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria Police Force.

Kyari and his four police colleagues pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The others are Sunday Ubua, who is an Assistant Commissioner of Police; Bawa James who is an Assistant Superintendent of Police; as well as Inspectors Simon Agirigba, and John Nuhu.

However; the two civilians accused alongside the policemen – Chibuinna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne – pleaded guilty to three of the charges.

Following the development; Justice Nwite adjourned the trial of the accused persons till March 14 for hearing of their bail application.

Justice Nwite also ordered KYARI and his co-accused persons to remain in the custody of the NDLEA until the next hearing of the matter on Monday next week.
