Court upholds Oba Adeyinka Onakade as the Alakene of Ikene

An Ogun State High Court sitting in Sagamu has upheld the nomination of Oba ADEYINKA ONAKADE as the Alakenne of Ikenne.

The State High Court also set aside the purported nomination of Prince OLUWAYOMI ADEMOLA ADEYIGA by the Obara ruling house as the Alakenne-elect in 2018.

Prince ADEYIGA had filed a suit at the Sagamu high court against Oba ADEYINKA ONAKADE and the governor of Ogun State, and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to contest the selection and appointment of the Alakenne of Ikenne.

Prince ADEYIGA claimed that the action was illegal, null and void, and prayed the court to set aside the nomination, selection and appointment of Oba ADEYINKA ONAKADE.

But in a judgment delivered on June 3, 2020, Justice C.C. OGUNSANYA declared that the stool of the Alakenne of Ikenne was filled on the 25th of May, 2011 when the Ogun State Executive Council approved the nomination and selection of Oba ADEYINKA ONAKADE.

The court further granted an order of perpetual injunction restraining Prince ADEMOLA ADEYIGA from parading himself as the Alakenne of Ikenne, as there was no vacancy for the Stool.

Meanwhile, Oba ADEYINKA ONAKADE, Alakenne of Ikenne has welcomed the judgement of the court and has “extended his hand of fellowship to all the good people of Ikenne”.

“There is no victor and vanquished in thus contest. I am humbly appealing to everybody to embrace love, peace and cooperation to move Ikenne forward”, Oba ONAKADE said.
