Federal Government bars outgoing calls on Sim Cards not linked to NIN

All mobile phone lines that have not been linked to the National Identification Number platform will no longer be able to make calls.

This move may affect up to seventy-two-point-eight million mobile telecoms subscribers who are yet to comply with the government directive to link their SIM cards to their National Identification Numbers.

This is as a result of a directive by the Federal Government to the Mobile Telecoms Service providers, through the National Communications Commission and the National Identity Management Commission.

The directive was announced in a statement jointly signed by Ikechukwu Adinde who is the Director of Public Affairs at the NCC, and Kayode Adegoke, who is the Head of Corporate Communications at NIM-C.

Both men disclosed in the statement that over one hundred and twenty-five million mobile SIMs have been linked with the National Identification Numbers of their owners.

It also noted that that the National Identity Management Commission had so far issued over seventy-eight million Nigerians with the National Identification Number.
