George Floyd’s murder trial begins in Minneapolis

The family of George Floyd; the black American man whose killing by a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, sparked the Black Life Matters protests, has called for justice.

Forty-five-year-old Chauvin was recorded on video as he knelt on Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes until he died.

Chauvin has since been sacked from the police, and has pleaded not guilty to four counts, including second-degree murder, but if he is convicted, he could spend up to forty years in prison.

The position of the family was made by their lawyer, Justin Miller, as the trial of Chauvin and four other police officers opens in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
