Gunmen kill 5 soldiers in 2nd Rivers State attack

Gunmen have attacked another security outfit in Rivers State, killing five military personnel in Abua-Odual Local Government Area.

The attack last night comes a day after similar raids on security checkpoints in Ikwerre Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of some security officials, including three customs officers.

Following the repeated attacks on security outfits, the Rivers State Security Council has called an emergency meeting to discuss the situation and adopt a response strategy.

Meanwhile; Governor Nyesom Wike has directed that those behind the attacks on security personnel in the state must be arrested and punished by the law.

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, Governor Wike said there was no justification for attacks on innocent security personnel who were doing their lawful duties.
