“It’s A Lie”: Zidane Squashes End Of Season Exit Reports
Real Madrid coach, Zinedine Zidane has denied claims that he has already told his players that he would leave by the end of the season.
On Sunday, Goal online reported that the Frenchman who’s contracted to the La Liga giants until 2022 had informed the squad of his decision to leave by the end of the season.
According to Goal, the three-time UEFA Champions League winner told his players he would resign after their final game next week.
But Zidane in his post-match conference after the 1-0 victory over Athletico Bilbao denied the reports, saying there was no way he would communicate such with his team at this time although he didn’t rule out the possibility of him leaving.
“How am I going to tell my players that I am going now? It’s a lie,” he said.
“I focus on this season. There is a game left and we are going to give everything. I only care what happens in this finale. The rest, we will see at the end of the season.”
The 48-year-old however didn’t rule out the possibility of him leaving.
“There comes a time when it’s the moment to change” he added.
“I don’t leave because it’s easy. It’s not like I turn away and don’t look back”
“No, there are moments when you have to be there and there are moments when that’s it, it’s finished, it’s time to change. But for the good of everyone, not just for me.”
Former Real Madrid striker, Raul Gonzalez, Massimiliano Allegri, and Joachim Loew have been tipped as possible successors if Zidane leaves.
