·         Daily feeding for 100,000

·         Cash transfers for 250,000

·         Additional 9 Covid-19 patients discharged

·         Home search for infected persons begins

The Lagos State Government has ordered the release of all vehicles that were impounded by security agencies between March 1 and April 14, 2020.

Governor BABAJIDE SANWO-OLU announced the gesture among several acts of assistance for Lagos residents to overcome the burden of the extended Coronavirus lockdown.

Governor SANWO-OLU said in the coming days, relief materials would be distributed to all stakeholders, including faith based organisations and opposition political parties.

Furthermore; the Governor said government would be opening up what he called Daily Food Kitchen programme to provide feeding for about one hundred thousand young people in Lagos on daily basis.

Meanwhile; nine additional Covid-19 patients have recovered and discharged from isolation centres in Lagos State.

With over three hundred bed isolation centres already in existence, the Lagos State government plans to extend its capacity above five hundred.

Governor BABAJIDE SANWO-OLU, who made these known during a media briefing, also said the search for new cases of Coronavirus is moving into the communities.

The Governor added that the state is “boosting the capacity of our isolation centres to take up new patients.

He said “As at 6:00pm on Tuesday, Lagos had recorded 198 COVID-19 cases – highest in Nigeria – with “seven deaths, three transfers, and two evacuations.”

“While the numbers are definitely rising on the curve, we are also maintaining a 25 to 30 per cent discharge rate of active cases which unequivocally shows that our medical intervention and management of cases are working,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Also speaking; the Commissioner for Health, Professor AKIN ABAYOMI, said one hundred and eighty thousand households have been reached in the house-to-house search for Covid-19 symptoms.

Professor ABAYOMI said community search was activated to limit the spread of the disease in Lagos, which has the highest number of COVID-19 patients in Nigeria.

“We’ve embarked on an active case search in communities. The idea is to go to hotspots and go from door-to-door with our health personnel.

“So far, in the last two days, we’ve visited 118,000 households and we’re looking for the typical symptoms of COVID-19. We’ve identified about 119 people who have symptoms that are suggestive of COVID-19,” he said.
