Ooni of Ife calls on southwest states’ legislatures to adopt Yoruba language

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has praised the Lagos State House of Assembly for setting aside a day every week to conduct its activities in Yoruba language.

Oba Ogunwusi also called on other State Assemblies in Yoruba Land to follow the example of the Lagos State Legislature.

The Ife Monarch said people in other countries honour and cherish Yoruba language, but Yoruba people back home do not seem to value their language.

The Ooni was speaking when he paid a visit to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, at the Legislative Complex in Alausa, Ikeja.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State House of Assembly has passed a bill for the setting up of a training institute for law enforcement officers in the state.

The Speaker, Mudashiu Obasa, approved the passage of the ‘Bill for the Establishment of Lagos State Training Institute’ after the third reading.

In a statement confirming the development, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Eromosele Ebhomele, said the Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to send a copy of the Bill to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for him to sign it into law.
