Police burst gangs of murderous kidnappers; recover arms and ammunition

Police detectives have arrested 2 members of a gang of deadly kidnappers operating around Katsina-Ala in Benue State.

The suspects were allegedly involved in the kidnap and murder of a Medical Doctor identified as Audu Benedict, his son and one of his associates in Katsina-ala LGA, while travelling from Taraba State to Abuja on March 10, 2019.

25-year-old Henry Terkula Gwa, from Donga LGA, and 30-year-old Terhile Tsavbe, from Gawa village, Katsina-ala LGA, were arrested by Operatives of the Police Intelligence Response Team on June 6 and 11, 2020.

Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mbah, who confirmed the arrests, said investigations revealed that the criminal gang collected N7.5million ransom from the families of the victims.

Mbah, who is a Deputy Commissioner of Police, said the suspects also forced the late Dr Audu Benedict to issue them a cheque of N500,000.000, which they cashed in a commercial bank in Gboko town, Benue State, before killing all three victims and buried their bodies in a shallow grave at Gawa in Katsina-ala LGA.

The Force spokesman said 25 other suspects have also been arrested for various heinous crimes across the North-Central and North-West states, with 6 AK47 rifles, a cache of live ammunition and other incriminating items recovered from them.

He said the suspects are members of high-profile criminal gangs terrorizing communities and major highways in the North-Central and North-West States of the country.

In a statement; DCP Mbah said the Inspector-General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, has assured that the battle against criminal elements in the country is a continuous one. He calls for all hands to be on deck towards decisive victory and reclaiming of the public space from the criminal elements
