UN General Assembly suspends Russia from Human Rights Council

The United Nations General Assembly has suspended Russia from its Human Rights Council.

The vote was adopted during an emergency session of the UN General Assembly at its headquarters in New York.

The move follows allegations of war crimes by Russian troops in Ukraine, after Ukraine’s ambassador to the UN Sergiy Kyslytsya called attention to the killing of civilians in the city of Bucha.

However, Russia’s ambassador to the UN, Gennady Kuzmin, condemned the vote, with North Korea and Syria also taking sides with Russia.
