Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) don release breakdown of how pipo take perform for di 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), and di tori wey dem give show say over 1.5 million out of 1.95 million candidates no reach 200 out of 400.
For post wey dem drop for their official X handle on Monday, JAMB talk say total of 1,955,069 candidates write di exam, and inside that number, 1,534,654—wey be 78.5%—no reach 200 mark.
From di breakdown:
- 4,756 candidates (0.24%) score 320 and above
- 7,658 candidates (0.39%) score between 300 and 319
- Na only 12,414 candidates (0.63%) score 300 and above
- 73,441 candidates (3.76%) score between 250 and 299
- 334,560 candidates (17.11%) score between 200 and 249
Wey mean say na only small portion pass 200, as majority fall inside:
- 160–199 score range: 983,187 candidates (50.29%)
- 140–159: 488,197 candidates (24.97%)
- 120–139: 57,419 candidates (2.94%)
- 100–119: 3,820 candidates (0.20%)
- Below 100: 2,031 candidates (0.10%)
JAMB also talk say 40,247 candidates wey never reach di required age still write di exam because dem show “exceptional abilities.” But na only 467 of dem (1.16%) reach di threshold wey JAMB define as “exceptional.” Dem say these people result go pass through more checks for three extra stages.
Di board also talk say:
- 97 candidates do exam malpractice
- 2,157 dey under investigation for suspected cheating
- 71,701 candidates no show up for exam
- Pipo wey get biometric wahala still dey under investigation, and if dem clear, JAMB go reschedule their exam
Dem still dey process result of blind candidates and some others under special category. JAMB promise say everybody go get fair treatment and dem go soon announce how candidates fit check their result.
For comparison, JAMB say for 2024:
- Over 1.94 million candidates register
- Only 0.4% score above 300
- 24% score 200 or more
- 76% score below 200
- For gender, women (50.6%) pass men (49.4%) for the first time in three years
- 3,164 persons wey get disability register for exam—36.2% increase from last year
