21 Months Later, NDLEA Don Abandon Family of Small Pikin Wey Dem Kill for Delta

Nearly two years don pass since NDLEA officers for Delta State mistakenly shoot two small pikin dem — kill two-year-old Ivan Omorhiakogbe and injure im one-year-old brother, Eromonsele — but their family never still see justice.

As dem report, na stray bullet from NDLEA hit the pikin dem on July 13, 2023, during one drug raid for Okpanam area, Delta State. The incident happen for their mama shop. Ivan die instantly while Eromonsele get bullet wound for im left eye.

By November 5, 2023 — four months after — Delta State Government and NDLEA talk say dem go fly Eromonsele go U.S. for treatment. But 21 months later, the boy never travel and the family never receive any compensation for the death of Ivan.

Senator Neda Imasuen, wey dey represent Edo South, don reject the N20 million compensation NDLEA offer. He say that amount no reach and Senate no go accept less than N100 million for the family. He talk say dem dey even plan to collect the money directly from NDLEA budget.

He say, “The case na two small children wey dem shoot — one die and the other one eye nearly blind. NDLEA accept say na dem shoot the gun by mistake, but dem wan give only N20 million. That one no fit cover the pain wey the family dey go through.”

The family lawyer, Mathew Edaghede, talk say dem dey demand N2 billion. He tell House of Reps Committee on Public Petitions say, “One life don end, another pikin destiny dey at risk because of the eye.”

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State don also talk say dem write letter give the family to help them get visa for U.S. treatment. NDLEA boss, Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), still talk say dem dey work on the travel plan.

But as at now, nothing don still happen. The boy never travel and the family never still get any form of justice or compensation.
