Di Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) don talk say no money miss or dem thief from di student loan scheme, even as tori dey fly say some schools dey divert money wey suppose help students.
Tori bin spread say schools dey chop di money wey NELFUND dey manage, and dat one make di Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) begin investigate di mata.
But NELFUND Oga, Akintunde Sawyerr, don come out talk say dem books clean and everything dey under control.
“Make I clear am well-well – no money don miss, no money dem thief. Di president setup dis student loan fund to help students wey no get money for school,” Sawyerr talk.
He continue: “No ₦71 billion don loss. Di money wey we get na to help students wey no fit afford school. Yes, small wahala bin dey for some stage because human beings dey involved, but dat no mean say money miss.”
People don dey complain say di loan money dey delay or no dey reach some students at all. But Sawyerr explain say NELFUND no dey give students money directly.
“No be students dey collect di money directly. Na di schools dey receive di money directly from NELFUND to cover tuition or school charges. Na only when student don already pay before NELFUND pay again, wey double payment happen, dem go get refund,” he add.
He also talk say dem dey run serious investigation to find out where di problems dey come from and how to fix am.
