ASUU Don Elect Chris Piwuna As New Presido

Di Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) don elect Prof. Chris Piwuna wey be Professor of Medicine and Consultant Psychiatrist for University of Jos Teaching Hospital as dia new national presido.

Piwuna, wey bin dey serve before as National Vice Presido of di union and Dean of Student Affairs for University of Jos, go take over from Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke.

Dem elect di new presido during ASUU 23rd National Delegates Congress wey happun for University of Benin, Edo State, on Sunday.

Reports talk say di election bin happen between Piwuna and Professor Adamu Babayo from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.

Di time wey Piwuna dey enter office come as people dey yarn say ASUU fit soon go on strike again because of wahala around how Federal Government take share di Earned Academic Allowances, brain drain, and other serious gbege for Nigeria university system.

Dem also elect other people to follow work with am: Austen Sado as vice presido, Happiness Uduk as financial secretary, Peter Adamu as treasurer, Celestine Aguoru as investment secretary, Aisha Bawa as welfare officer, and Kassim Umar as internal auditor.

Osodeke serve as ASUU presido from May 30, 2021, reach May 11, 2025—four full years. E stand gidigba against some government policies like di Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), and e always dey push for better university system and academic freedom.

Dem re-elect am for second term of two years in May 2023 during ASUU 22nd National Delegates Conference for University of Jos.
