One High Court wey dey Federal Capital Territory (FCT) don grant ₦2 billion bail to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, on Monday.
Justice Halilu Yusuf, wey give the ruling, grant the bail after dem arraign Emefiele for eight-count charge. Di charges include say him allegedly acquire one estate wey get 753 houses unlawfully, steal and control billions of naira wey dey for proxy accounts.
Justice Yusuf talk say Emefiele don already get bail for three other criminal cases wey still dey ground, and say no evidence show say him don ever jump bail before.
The judge come grant am bail but condition say him must provide two sureties wey get property worth ₦2 billion for Aso Drive, Maitama or Wuse 2 — all within the court jurisdiction.
Emefiele go also submit him travel documents to the court, and the judge order say he must meet all the bail conditions before next Wednesday, otherwise dem go remand am for custody.
Na him lawyer, Matthew Burkaa (SAN), move the bail application, and the prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), no oppose the bail but beg make court add extra conditions different from the ones other courts don give before.
