Another Explosion Shake Gas Facility for Rivers State

Another explosion don hit Soku oil facility for Akuku Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, barely one week after di major explosion wey happen for Trans Niger Pipeline inside Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area.

Di Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre (YEAC-Nigeria), one grassroots NGO wey get strong network for Niger Delta, confirm di latest explosion on Sunday.

For statement wey e Executive Director, Dr. Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface, sign, YEAC talk say dem receive report from dia youth volunteers about di early morning explosion for di Soku oil facility wey Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited dey operate.

Di statement talk say: “Explosion wey carry fireball happen, and di fire still dey burn as at di time of dis report. Di place dey hard to reach, but people for di area see di fire for sky.”

Di cause of di explosion never clear, but people dey suspect say e fit be equipment failure, sabotage or deliberate attack.

Dis one na di third oil facility explosion wey don happen for Rivers State within one week. Di first one happen for Ogoni, di second one happen for Oga/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, di same explosion wey President Bola Tinubu mention for e March 18 nationwide broadcast as reason why e declare six-month state of emergency for Rivers State.

Because of di recent wahala, di President suspend di Rivers State House of Assembly, Deputy Governor and Governor Siminalayi Fubara, accusing di governor say e fail to protect oil infrastructure.

Di decision come after some youths for viral video threaten say make dem no try impeach Governor Fubara.

Meanwhile, YEAC-Nigeria don call for urgent investigation into di Soku explosion. Di group dey beg National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) make dem do Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) to find out wetin cause di explosion.

Dem also talk say “Anybody wey dey responsible for dis act must face di law under di Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), 2021.”
