Justice Yetunde Pinheiro of the Lagos State High Court don rule say the way dem take remove Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly no follow law and na unconstitutional.
For judgment wey she deliver on Wednesday, di court cancel the January 13, 2025 sitting wey dem use take sack Obasa. She talk say di process no get legal standing.
Obasa carry the matter go court on February 12, 2025, through him lawyer Chief Afolabi Fashanu (SAN). He talk say the Assembly remove am when dem dey on recess and he no even dey Nigeria that time.
Obasa talk say:
- That sitting no get proper authority
- Nobody from Speaker office give permission for am
- The whole thing no follow Assembly rules or Nigeria Constitution
The court come agree with am say the process no correct, and all the resolutions dem pass that day no hold water.
With this ruling, Obasa don bounce back as Speaker, and everything wey dem do during the session wey remove am — including the appointment of Mojisola Meranda as Speaker — don turn invalid.
