FG Go Review Electricity Tariff For Band B, C Customers

Di Federal Government don announce plan to balance electricity tariff so dem fit solve di wahala wey dey inside di current billing system and also encourage investment for di power sector.

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, talk dis one for di public presentation of di National Integrated Electricity Policy and Nigeria Integrated Resource Plan wey dey happen for Abuja on Thursday.

E say government dey consider dis move because di migration to Band A customers dey slow, and e blame di Distribution Companies (DisCos) say dem no wan invest as dem suppose.

Right now, customers for Band B wey dey get 17 to 18 hours of light per day dey pay ₦63 per kilowatt-hour, but Band A customers wey get just two extra hours dey pay ₦209 per kilowatt-hour.

Adelabu say dis difference no make sense and e no fair at all, so e dey necessary to balance di tariff make pricing system dey fair for everybody.

Di minister talk say:

“We go check di tariff again. No be say we wan increase am before dem go misquote me. We go look am well to see how we fit improve di small progress wey we don make last year. No be only to grow di power sector, but also to invest for di old infrastructure wey don spoil.”

E still talk say di migration to Band A suppose don move faster, but DisCos no wan put money for di sector.

“For us to move di lower-band customers enter Band A fast, we need plenty investment. But e dey take too much time because DisCos no wan spend money.”

To solve dis matter, government dey consider to restructure di tariff bands and reduce di big gap wey dey between dem.

Di new system wey dem propose go cover Bands A, B, and C to make di price fair for everybody.

“Di gap between di Band A tariff and di ones for Bands B, C, D, and E too wide. We believe say e no fair, e no just, and we must balance am.”

E still talk say government go review di current tariff structure, but e quick clear di air say di review no mean say dem go increase di light bill immediately.
