Nigeria don decide to create one special security team wey go protect power installations and infrastructure for di kontri.
“We don decide now, with di Minister of Power, to set up wetin we go call ‘Power Rangers,’” Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, talk for interview on Friday.
Di ‘Power Rangers’ go be special unit inside di Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and dem go dey focus on stopping vandalism of power infrastructure wey don cause serious blackout for different parts of di kontri.
As cases of vandalism dey increase and Nigerians dey complain about frequent blackouts, di minister talk say e don reach time to find better solution to di problem.
E say di idea to create di ‘Power Rangers’ na based on di success of Mines Marshalls, wey di Federal Government launch for March 2024 to tackle security issues for di mining sector.
“Before dis government enter, di security of national assets no get special focus. But we talk say e no fit work like dat. You no fit use one medicine take cure all sickness,” di minister explain.
“So we gats analyze each sector differently – di power sector, water sector, education sector, health sector – and create special units under Civil Defence wey go dey handle dem.”
Even though di decision to create ‘Power Rangers’ don dey set, di minister never give exact date for when dem go launch di unit.
But e talk say work don already start to set up di team.
“We don agree on di way di unit go operate, and right now, we dey screen di officers wey go join,” e talk.
“No forget say we go get officers for all 36 states plus FCT, because no state wey no get power infrastructure. E just be like di solid minerals sector.
“We don dey process di selection of di officers – we go profile dem, check dia capacity, competence, area of specialisation, and even physical strength.”
