International fraud gangs don dey set up base for Nigeria – EFCC

Ola Olukoyede, wey be Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), don talk say foreign fraud gangs don dey set up base for different cities inside Nigeria. E say dem dey recruit young people enter serious cybercrime, including cryptocurrency fraud.

EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, talk this one for statement wey e drop on Thursday for Abuja.

E explain say Olukoyede talk am when e receive participants of di Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC) 18 from di National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) on Wednesday for Abuja.

Di team wey visit EFCC na di institute’s Director of Studies, Hyginus Ngele, lead dem come.

Olukoyede say e shock am how bandits and insurgents fit sustain their activities for di country all these years.

Di EFCC chairman talk say all dis things dey add to di security problem wey Nigeria dey face.

“Another wahala wey people never really focus on be say, we recently discover say organised foreign fraud gangs don dey set up cells for different cities inside Nigeria.

“Dem dey recruit young Nigerians enter serious cybercrime, including cryptocurrency fraud.

“From di things wey EFCC don recently discover, we dey see say many of dis people dey use cryptocurrency take pay for illegal importation of arms enter di country.”

E talk say dis matter suppose concern everybody.

“For di special operation wey we do for Lagos recently, we arrest 194 foreigners for di heart of Victoria Island.

“Di people wey we catch include Chinese, Filipinos, Eastern Europeans, Tunisians, and others. All of dem dey inside one building at di same time. Imagine wetin dem fit dey do—194 of dem!

“Some of dem no even get valid visa, and di financial activities wey dem dey do na mostly through cryptocurrency.”

E still talk say EFCC discover say some of di foreigners wey dem catch na ex-convicts for their countries.

“Some of dem don already go prison for their country before dem escape enter Africa. No be only Nigeria dem dey, dem don spread enter other African countries too, based on di investigation we dey do.”

Di EFCC chairman beg make Nigeria and di whole of Africa work together to fight dis internet fraud wahala.

E talk say di way foreign crime gangs dey move money through laundering and di security threat wey dem dey cause, suppose make government put eye well well.

“All di security, intelligence, and law enforcement agencies for Nigeria and Africa suppose join hand to fight dis problem,” e talk.

Earlier, di NISS commandant, Joseph Odama, wey Ngele represent, praise Olukoyede leadership for EFCC, say e don do well to fight corruption, money laundering, and financial crimes.

E talk say EFCC achievement no only make Nigeria strong, but e also set example for other African countries.

E talk say under Olukoyede, EFCC don dey forefront to investigate and prosecute financial crimes, especially di ones wey non-state actors dey do.

“Di work wey EFCC dey do don expose di way some NGOs and other organisations dey use money support bad groups, wey dey cause wahala for Nigeria and Africa.

“We sabi say EFCC dey play big role to stop dis criminal network and hold dem accountable.

“Because of dis, we wan hear how EFCC dey manage di wahala wey non-state actors dey cause and how Nigeria and other African countries fit make their legal and security system stronger to fight dis problem while still making sure transparency and accountability dey.”
