Di Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs for Niger State, Ahmad Suleiman, don talk say dem don recover more than 200 dead bodies from di flood wey happen for Mokwa Local Government Area of di state.
“We don see more than 200 dead bodies but we still dey find more,” na wetin di commissioner talk for one interview wey happen on Tuesday. “Up till now, we still dey recover dead bodies.”
“Nobody fit tell you di correct number of people wey die for Niger State now because even as I dey talk, we still dey find some corpses,” he add.
Suleiman talk say di Umar Bago administration for di north-central state don activate emergency response and dem don order make dem share relief materials to people wey flood pursue comot from dia houses, wey dey stay for temporary camps.
“Niger State Government don put things in place and many agencies and ministries don contribute. Di level of damage wey happen, you no fit know am from social media unless you go there with your eye. Di damage too much.”
“State government don send trailers of rice go give di victims. Di governor wife even visit di local government yesterday and she donate N50 million,” na so he talk.
But people wey dey stay for di makeshift camps still dey complain say di way dem take handle relief matter no sweet dem belle at all.
Our reporter wey visit di affected areas see say many of di victims dey vex and disappointed, especially say food no dey reach dem well and di camps no good.
Some people wey flood affect talk say even though dem snap photo with food items by government people and relief workers, dem no still receive anything.
One woman, Mama Isah, talk her mind say, “We be 17 people for my house, but na only one loaf of bread and small tea dem give us. How that one go reach even for breakfast?”
She beg government make dem allow good people and organisations wey wan help dem do am directly without any wahala or magomago.
Apart from food wahala, people don also dey complain about how di camp condition bad. One community volunteer, Hussaini Muhammed, talk say di camps no good for human beings to stay at all.
