As flood wahala serious for Mokwa Local Government Area for Niger State, Governor Umaru Bago don announce wetin im government go do to bring hope and help people rebuild their lives.
When im visit the temporary camp for Tiffin Madza Primary School wey dem dey use host plenty people wey flood pursue from their houses (IDPs), di governor talk say the state government don donate ₦1 billion and 50 trucks of different types of grains to help the victims.
E still announce say government don award the Mokwa-Raba road project, wey include construction of four new bridges, and e go cost ₦7 billion. Dis one na to help people waka better, make trade improve and stop people from dey stranded if flood happen again.
Governor Bago warn people make dem no dey build for places wey water suppose pass (waterways), say na dis kind thing dey make flood worse. E talk say im don tell the Ministry of Lands make dem give Certificate of Occupancy to Federal Government so that dem fit build permanent homes for the people wey flood affect.
Even though di IDP camp na temporary till month end, di governor promise say every family wey flood pursue go collect money for house rent until their permanent house ready.
“The government dey fully committed to make una life better and normal again,” na wetin Governor Bago talk. E come pray for the victims, say, “Na God arrange everything, and na Him go console una during this hard time.”
As the governor dey talk, Hussaini Ibrahim, wey be Acting Director General of Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), explain how bad the flood be:
- 206 people die — men, women and children;
- 82 people wound, some serious;
- 458 houses destroy completely;
- 180 hectares of farmland sink inside water;
- 3,534 people no get house again, dem dey manage inside temporary shelter;
- 9,560 people still need urgent help — food, clean water, house, and medical care.
Hussaini talk say, “The kind destruction wey happen na real heartbreak. Plenty families don scatter, dem don lose how dem dey survive, and community don break.”
