NiMet Workers Don Call Off Strike After Federal Government Put Mouth

Workers of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) don call off their strike after federal government put mouth for di matter.

Di workers bin protest because of bad working conditions, wey even make flights for many airports across di country no fit operate on Thursday.

But after dem hold meeting with di Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, for Abuja, dem gree make dem end di strike.

Di workers vex say government never implement di new national minimum wage, say some staff wey suppose benefit from past allowances no dey included, and say important training programmes wey dem need dey ignored, among other wahala.

People wey attend di meeting na di Director General of NiMET, officials from Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), National Union of Transport Employees, and other big stakeholders.

Others wey show face include Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees, Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals, and National Union of Air Transport Employees.

Before dem call off di strike, flight activities don suffer for local airports, with passengers stranded for places like Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.

Air Peace bin tell their passengers say dem no go fly again for safety reasons.

On Wednesday, Air Peace CEO, Allen Onyema, don order say make dem cancel all Air Peace flights across di country.

“If NiMET never call off di strike, cancel every Air Peace flight immediately. People life and safety of our equipment and crew na number one,” Onyema talk.

“I no care whether other airlines dey fly. Suspend every Air Peace flight for di whole country. See thunderstorm everywhere. See di kind weather we dey enter, and NiMET wey suppose give us updates don go on strike.

“Suspend all flights now-now, until further notice. Safety first.”
