Angelique Kidjo outshines Nigerian nominees at 2022 Grammy Awards

The 64th Grammy Awards ceremony has been held in the United States, but no single award was won by Nigerian nominees.

Femi Kuti, Made Kuti and Wizkid were nominated in the Best Global Music Performance and Best Global Music Album categories.

However, Arooj Aftab from Pakistan won the award for Best Global Music Performance for her single ‘Mohabbat’.

Angelique Kidjo picked up her fifth Grammy after winning the Best Global Music Album award.

In her acceptance speech, Kidjo praised African youths who have worked with her to promote the continent.

Meanwhile; Olivia Rodrigo, Silk Sonic and Jon Batiste were the biggest winners at this year’s Grammys.

Batiste won Album of the Year with his soul track, “We Are”, while Rodrigo won Best New Artist and Best Pop Album.

On his part, Silk Sonic took home the Record and Song of the Year awards for his throwback track “Leave The Door Open”.
