ASUU insists on strike, as FG sends 60,000 volunteers to monitor resumption

When federal universities and colleges reopen on Monday next week, members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities may not be available to teach the students.

ASUU’s National President, Professor BIODUN OGUNYEMI, said the universities’ lecturers would not resume teaching without food in their stomachs.

President OGUNYEMI said Nigerians should expect a long strike, as the Federal Government was not being sincere about providing what ASUU wants.

He alleged that the salaries of universities’ lecturers had been withheld, but the government said all lecturers on the IPPIS system have been paid.

Meanwhile; the Federal Government plans to send up to sixty thousand Environmental Health Emergency Volunteers to schools across the country.

The Minister of Environment, MOHAMMAD ABUBAKAR, said the goal is to make sure that federal government colleges follow the Covid-19 guidelines when they reopen on Monday next week.

The Minister said Environmental Health Emergency Volunteers would help the schools to adopt basic safety measures.
