Body of Late Archbishop DESMOND TUTU displayed in Cape Town

This report from South Africa says the funeral ceremonies of late Archbishop DESMOND TUTU have begun, with the body lying in state at the Saint George’s Cathedral in Cape Town, ahead of the official state funeral on Saturday, which is New Year Day, January 1, 2022.

The lying in state period had to be extended to two days, “for fear there might be a stampede”, a local priest told AFP news agency, as large crowds are expected to visit the cathedral during the period.

Archbishop Tutu, a Nobel Peace Prize winner who helped end apartheid in South Africa, died on Sunday at the age of 90.
