Clash averted between Task force and Soldiers in Port harcourt

The streets of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, returned to life, Monday, January 4, 2021, after the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

This followed the return of the government task force to enforce a ban on street trading, illegal markets and motor parks, which comes with a new task force.

Operatives of the task force are equipped with patrol trucks and supported by armed policemen and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Reports say as they moved round the Garden City to carry out their assignment, they were confronted by soldiers around Bori Camp area, near Rumuola, on the Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway.

An eyewitness told Lasgidi FM News Desk on telephone that the Rivers State task force operatives faced resistance from soldiers who claimed that they were encroaching on military zone.

Our source said members of the Rivers State Task Force Against Street Trading, Illegal Markets and Motor Parks used the face day of their assignment to ask street traders to leave the roadside.

The spokesman for the Nigerian Army Six Division, Major CHARLES EKEOCHA, told Lasgidi FM on telephone that he was not on ground to confirm the incident.
