Cost of Local Rice overtakes foreign varieties at Daleko Market

This year’s end-of-year season appears not to be the best compared to previous years for traders at the popular Daleko Rice Market in Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State.

However, one thing that stands out at the market is that people who may need to buy rice for their festivities will likely find the foreign varieties cheaper at the Daleko Market, compared to local rice.

Lasgidi FM’s AZUKA ONWUZOR spoke with some of the traders in continuation of our market survey in the buildup to the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

A fifty-kilogram bag of foreign rice at the market now sells for twenty-one thousand naira, while the local rice is selling for up to twenty-three thousand naira.

Also, a twenty-five-liter keg of groundnut oil, which was previously sold for thirteen thousand, five hundred naira, has gone up to eighteen thousand, five hundred naira.
