Court refuses to stop trial of El-Zakzaky, Wife

The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh IBRAHIM EL-ZAZAKY and his wife ZEENAT have lost their no-case submission in their ongoing trial.

Justice GIDEON KUDAFA of the Kaduna State High said it was too early to dismiss the charges against the couple, going by provisions of the State Administration of Criminal Justice Law.

EL-ZAKZAKI and his wife are facing eight counts of culpable homicide, unlawful assembly and disruption of the public peace, among others allegations.

The charges are related to bloody clashes between members of the IMN and soldiers in Zaria, Kaduna State, in December 2015, during which several people died.

The case has been adjourned to November 18 and 19, 2020 for the continuation of trial, after EL-ZAZAKY and his wife pleaded not guilty.

Meanwhile; outside the courtroom, EL-ZAKZAKY’s lawyer, ABUBAKAR MARSHAL, told newsmen that the court did not dismiss his clients’ application.
