COVID-19 drains aviation revenue; as FAAN estimates 90% loss

The Nigerian Aviation sector may take a long time to recover from losses suffered during the Covid-19 lockdown.

This comes ahead of the resumption of international flight operations this weekend, after about five months of the Covid-19 lockdown in the sector.

One of the government agencies that is severely hit by the effect of the pandemic is the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA.

The spokesman for the agency, SAM ADUROGBOYE, said even with the resumption of local flights in July, there are no signs of recovery yet from the impact of the pandemic.

Similarly; the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria is counting up to ninety percent of revenue loss due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This was made known by the FAAN spokesperson, HENRIETTA YAKUBU, made this known in an interview with Lasdidi FM News Desk.

To make up for the loss of revenue, HENRIETTA YAKUBU said FAAN is looking at areas outside of flights operations to generate money for its operations.

Meanwhile; the spokespersons for the Nigerian aviation regulatory agencies said compliance level with the Covid-19 guidelines at the airports has been very high.
