COVID-19 UPDATE: confirmed cases exceed 400, with 34 new cases

…Medical doctor dies in Lagos

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has recorded thirty-four new confirmed cases of Coronavirus disease in the country, which now puts the total in Nigeria at four hundred and seven.

The NCDC confirmed on its Twitter handle last night that eighteen of the new cases were recorded in Lagos; twelve in Kano; two in Katsina; one in Delta, and one in Niger.

Meanwhile; the number of people who have so far recovered from the disease and discharged from isolation centres nationwide now stands at one hundred and twenty-eight.

However; Nigeria recorded its twelfth death from the Covid-19 pandemic, which involved a medical doctor identified as Doctor CHUGBO EMEKA, who died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital.

The deceased is said to have contracted Covid-19 while managing a patient with the infection at a private hospital.

In a related development; a sixty-three-year-old Nigerian man who had no history of travel or contact with any confirmed Covid-19 case has died of the dreaded disease in Lagos State.

The death was announced as another set of sixteen persons completed their treatment for Covid-19 and discharged from isolation centres in Lagos State.

The recovered patients comprise of fourteen males and two females, including three foreigners from Britain, China and Poland.

Fourteen of the recovered patients were treated at the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Yaba, while two were cared for at the makeshift isolation centre in Onikan.

Governor BABAJIDE SANWO-OWU confirmed the development in his official twitter handle.
