COVID19 UPDATE: NCDC confirms 595 new case, considers possible Airborne Transmission

Nigeria has added five hundred and ninety-five new cases of Covid-19.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control revealed last night that the new infections were recorded in nineteen states and Abuja.

The highest number of cases are in Lagos State, with one hundred and fifty-six, followed by Oyo with one hundred and forty-one, while Abuja had ninety-nine new cases.

Other are Edo – 47, Kaduna – 27, Ondo – 22, Rivers – 20, Osun – 17, Imo – 13, Plateau – 10; Nasarawa and Anambra had eight new infections each, while Kano, Benue and Borno recorded five cases each.

Furthermore; Ogun recorded four new cases, Taraba and Gombe each had three new cases, while Kebbi and Cross River states recorded one new case each.

With the new cases; Nigeria has now recorded a total of thirty-three thousand, one hundred and fifty-three confirmed cases of Covid-19.

Thirteen thousand, six hundred and seventy-one patients have recovered from the virus and discharged from isolation centres.

However, seven hundred and forty-four persons have died from Covid-19 in Nigeria.

Meanwhile; health researchers all over the world have stumbled on new evidence that suggest the possibility of airborne transmission of Covid-19.

This was made known by the Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, CHIKWE IHEKWEAZU.

IHEKWEAZU said the World Health Organisation has also adjusted its Covid-19 protocol in line with the new finding.

The NCDC Boss said what the findings means is that staying together in closed places, with poor air circulation, comes with of transmitting or contracting the new coronavirus.

Also speaking, the National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19, ALIYU SANI, advised Nigerians to continue to comply with the Covid-19 guidelines.
