COVID19: Worship centres in Egbeda-Idimu face extortion

Some government officials are asking worship centres around Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State to pay for Covid-19 fumigation and certification.

This was noticed around Egbeda-Idimu axis, where some churches are being asked to pay up to thirty-five thousand naira or they would not be allowed to open for worship next Sunday.

Others worship centres have been threatened with lawsuit for allegedly using private companies for their fumigation exercise.

A copy of the letter seen by Lasgidi FM’s News Desk carries the letterhead of Alimosho Local Government; Egbeda-Idumu LCDA.

A voice that answered a call to the phone number written on the letter identified herself as the HOD Environment.

However; the Vice-Chairman of Egbeda-Idumu LCDA, ADEBIYI MUTIU, said the inspection and fumigation of worship centres do not require any payment.

Also speaking; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Drainage Services, JOE IGBOKWE, said no government official is authorized to collect money from worship centres.

Meanwhile; when our correspondent returned to the HOD Environment of Egbeda-Idumu LCDA, to inform her about the findings, she said her department does not get funding for logistics.
