DELTA QUEENS LEADS THE WAY IN SUPER 6

Delta Queens kick start their goal to represent Nigeria at the inaugural Africa Women Champions League with a 2-1 victory over Edo Queens at the ongoing Nigeria Women Football League Super 6 tournament at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode, Ogun state.

The team which finished second in the regular season scored the first goal in the 41st minute through Chiamaka Okuchukwu before Nneka Julius equalize for Edo Queens 8 minutes after the restart of the second half. Comfort Folorunsho goal in the 71st minutes, ensure Delta Queens are the only club to win their opening match at the tournament.

Other matches in the day saw Monday Gift’s effort cancel Vivian Ikechukwu goal for Rivers Angels as Lagos based club FC Robo drew their opening while table topper in the regular season Bayelsa Queens could only manage a draw against the 6th placed team in the regular season Sunshine Queens courtesy of goals from Sunday Abigail and Charity Reuben for both teams.

Today will see the second round of matches at the tournament as FC Robo square horns with Bayelsa Queens, Delta Queens hope to continue their good run against Rivers Angels while the last match of the day sees Sunshine Queens battle Edo Queens.

Meanwhile in the same development, the board of the Nigeria Women Football League, has announced a revised league fixture for all the clubs taking part in the NWFL Super Six.

According to the Chairperson of the NWFL, Aisha Falode, the revised fixtures is aimed at forestalling the nagative impact the heat in Ijebu Ode is generating at the moment, which may be injurious to the health and wellbeing of the players as it was experienced by all the teams in the Super Six, especially the teams that played at 2pm

Falode, said Monday evening in Ijebu Ode, that, the heat in Ijebu Ode is too intense, such that, in all the three matches played on Monday, the referees had to call for water break to prevent the players from dehydration, considering the intensity of the heat.

“Starting from tomorrow, the remaining matches of the Super 6 will start at 10am for the 1st game,2nd game starts at 12pm, while the 3rd game starts at 4pm. This leaves only the games for 12pm to witness the water break, while there won’t be water break at the 10am & 4pm fixtures.”
