Desmond Elliot faces attack for condemning social media influencers

Nollywood actor turned politician, DESMOND ELLIOT, has come under strong criticism over his support for the regulation of the use of social media in Nigeria.

ELLIOT, who represents Surelere Constituency One in the Lagos State House of Assembly, had warned that Nigeria may not exist in the next five years if social media remain unregulated.

The lawmaker gave the warning in a presentation at plenary in the Lagos State House of Assembly, as he blamed influencers and celebrities for spreading hate through social media.

Some notable Nigerian social media users have also taken to their various handles to criticize DESMOND ELLIOT over his comment.

Former presidential aide, RENO OMOKRI, said DESMOND ELLIOT had chosen to be the proverbial fly that followed the corpse into the grave.

Popular singer, DAVID ADEDEJI ADELEKE, also known as DAVIDO, said DESMOND ELLIOT has just destroyed all the precious childhood memories he gave to Nigerians in movies.

Meanwhile; DESMOND ELLIOT has topped the trending topics on Twitter since the video of his comment on social media was shared online.

The actor-turned lawmaker has also not reacted to the criticism trailing his backing of social media regulation.
