Dozens of families rendered homeless following demolition of Marwa Waterfront shanty in Lagos

A massive demolition exercise at the Marwa Beach waterfront, in Eti-Osa Local Government Area has left many families homeless.

The demolition was carried out by young men in plain clothes, but with lemon-coloured reflective vests, with nothing written on them.

The operation is also being supervised by a team of policemen, who refused to speak with our correspondent but referred all inquiries to unnamed authorities in Ikeja.

Hundreds of families who live in the shanty Marwa waterfront community was forcefully thrown out of their make-shift apartments.

Some of those who were seen trying to grab a few of their belongings told our correspondent AZUKA ONWUZOR that they were not given enough notice before the demolition.

Our correspondent who was at the demolition site, observed a notice on the fence, indicating that the property had been taken over by the Asset Management Company of Nigeria.
