#ENDSARS: Hoodlums attack Abuja protesters, as demands increase

EndSARS protests continued for the eighth day in Lagos, Abuja, and other parts of the country, Wednesday, October 14, 2020.

Despite the rainfall that started in the early hours of today, protesters returned to the Lekki Toll Plaza under the downpour.

The protesters have also added EndSWAT to their slogans of EndSARS and End-Police-Brutality.

This followed the announcement by the Inspector General of Police, MOHAMMED ADAMU, of the formation of a new unit known as Special Weapons Tactical team, SWAT.

Lasgidi FM’s CHUKWUEMEKA OBIOMA reports that the activities of the protesters slowed down the movement of vehicles between Lekki and Victoria Island.

Some of the protesters who spoke with our man said they are now asking for more than just police reform, and have added the demand for good governance.

Meanwhile; the Lekki protesters appear to be enjoying some favours, as some persons were seen distributing raincoats and umbrellas to them under the rain.

The protesters have also been enjoying daily supplies of food, beverages and water since the demonstration began last week.

The End-SARS protesters also returned to Ikeja-Alausa axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to further push their demands.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, OLAJIDE ODUYOYE, confirmed the traffic situation the road in an interview with newsmen.

Another group of protesters were also at the Lagos State Government secretariat for a protest that turned out like a carnival, with loud music playing from giant speakers mounted on a vehicle.

Reports from Abuja indicate that EndSARS protesters blocked the busy Berger roundabout with vehicles, which made it difficult for motorists to use the roads.

However; the situation turned violent and some persons were injured and vehicles damaged after suspected thugs armed with dangerous weapons invaded the venue of the protest.

Reports say the EndSARS protesters managed to overpowered the invaders, and some of the injured persons were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Elsewhere; hundreds of EndSARS protesters also returned to the streets of Warri and Effurun in Delta State.

Just like the other groups in Lagos and Abuja, the protesters in Warri and Effurun rejected the creation of the SWAT team as a replacement for the disbanded SARS.
