FG petitions CNN over report on shooting of EndSARS protesters

The Federal Government has formerly written to Cable News Network, CNN, to demand an investigation into its investigative report on the alleged shooting of EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos.

The demand was made in a letter by the Minister of Information and Culture, LAI MOHAMMED, which was addressed to CNN Vice President, JONATHAN HAWKINS.

The CNN report, which was released last week, had alleged that soldiers sent to the Lekki Tollgate fired live bullets on the protesters on the night of Tuesday, October 20, 2020, although the Army claimed the troops fired blanks.

However, LAI MOHAMMED is insisting that the report is inciting and fall short of journalistic standards, just as it helped to spread disinformation on the issue.

MOHAMMED said the CNN report was not balanced and relied on what he described as manipulated social media videos.
