Fmr. Director jailed over N60m fraud in Niger Delta Ministry

A former Director of Finance in the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, AYINLA ABIBU, has been sentenced to one year in prison.

ABIBU is also to forfeiture two plots of land in Kubwa and Bwari areas of Abuja to the Federal Government over a six-million-naira fraud.

The convict was sentenced by an Abuja High Court in a case brought against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC.

Justice OLUKAYODE ADENIYI found that AYINLA ABIBU defrauded the Federal Government of sixty million naira in March, 2014, through a company known as Zeocat Nigeria Limited.

The Court heard that ABIBU connived with a former Principal Accountant in the Ministry, KABIRU POLOMA and fraudulently withdrew the money from the Constituency Project account of the Ministry in the Central Bank of Nigeria.

He was said to have used the money to acquire a house in Ogbomosho, Oyo State and plots of land in Abuja.
