Gov. Sanwo-Olu visits scenes of destruction across Lagos

Lagos State Governor, BABAJIDE SANWO-OLU has carried out an assessment tour of hot spots of violence in parts of the state.

This comes as calm begins to return to the commercial hub of Nigeria and West Africa, a day after President MUHAMMADU BUHARI appealed to protesting youths for calm.

Governor SANWO-OLU and members of his team first stopped at Ajegunle, in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, where a police station, a SARS office, and the local government council secretariat were destroyed.

From there, the Governor and his team moved to the Ojodu-Berger axis, where the head office of the Lagos State Public Works Agency was looted and a BRT terminal where several buses were burnt.

At the Oyingbo BRT Terminal; the terminal building and several buses were burnt were completely destroyed, including many of them that were yet to be put on the road.

A staff of the BRT company who was on the ground to show the government officials around said the hoodlums who attacked the place were up to three hundred.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, GBENGA OMOTOSHO, said the damage around Lagos is huge.

On Lagos Island; Governor SANWO-OLU and members of his team visited the looted palace of the Oba of Lagos.

Pictures of the palace show that nothing was spared, including furniture, artifacts, the Oba’s throne, and documents, as well as vehicles parked within the compound.

The Erelu of Lagos and member of the Lagos Royal Family, Princess SHERIFAT DOSUNMU, said the attack appeared to have been planned.

On his part; the Chairman of Lagos Island-East Local Government, KAMAL SALAU—BASHUA, was present to receive the Governor.

He said that the attack on the Palace of the Oba of Lagos happened at the same time as the two local government council secretariats were attacked.

Governor SANWO-OLU also visited places that were attacked, looted, or burnt on the Lekki axis of Lagos, including Circle Mall and Spar shopping complex.

The Governor also returned to Reddington Hospital where he was told that all patients from the Lekki Toll Gate shooting incident have been discharged or referred to other facilities.

However; the medical doctor that briefing the Governor refused to comment on the nature of casualties that were handled by the hospital.
