Hungry residents empty warehouse of Covid-19 Palliatives in Ede, Osun State

Residents of Ede town in Osun State have helped themselves to Covid-19 food palliatives that were meant for them but were never distributed during the pandemic lockdown, which lasted for over four months.

More than two months after the easing of the lockdown, the residents stormed the warehouse located inside the old compound of the Cocoa Industry Ede, in the Ede North Local Government Area.

Items removed from the warehouse include cartoons of noodles and pasta, as well as bags of grains, including rice and garri. The food items had Covid-19 written on them.

The looting in Ede town, Osun State comes a day after another big warehouse of Covid-19 palliatives was looted around the Maza Maza area of Amuwo-Odofin in Lagos State. The Lagos State Government said it knew about the storage of the palliatives and was working on distributing them to those in need before the EndSARS protest began and it was halted.

The looting of the Covid-19 food palliatives in Ede also happened just as the Osun State Government announced the suspension of a twenty-four-hour curfew imposed in the state.

The suspension of the curfew was announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, WOLE OYEBAMIJI, which was dated Friday, October 23, 2020.

He said the decision to suspend the curfew followed a review of the situation in the last forty-eight hours, which showed significant improvement in security.

OYEBAMIJI said the State Government commends residents of Osun for their understanding and cooperation during the curfew.
