In Abuja, the National Human Rights Commission staged a walk on the streets to highlight the importance of the day.

Also in Abuja, members of the Nigerian Bar Association held a town hall meeting to discuss issues around human rights in Nigeria.

In an interview with newsmen, a popular human rights advocate, FEMI FALANA, paid tributes to those who lost their lives in the cause of demanding rights enforcement during the recent EndSARS protest.

This year’s International Human Rights Day was celebrated with the theme: “Recover Better – Stand Up for Human Rights”, as it relates to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile; one UCHENNA AMAKUDI has been freed after spending seven years in prison for a crime he says he did not commit.

AMAKUDI was released from prison yesterday, as the world marked International Human Rights Day, and he shared his story at an event in Lagos.

AMAKUDI told the gathering that his trouble started in 2013 after he was arrested for an alleged armed robbery.

The man said he was arrested while writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

A leading human rights lawyer, MALACHY UGWUMADU, was also present at the event and used the occasion to call on citizens to always insist on their fundamental human rights.

On his part; a former Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, KAYODE OPEIFA stressed the need for accused persons to be given a fair hearing at all times to avoid trampling on their rights.
