Lagos Lawyer, Monday Ubani, faults NBC N5M Hate Speech Fine

Broadcasting organisations in Nigeria have been challenged to take on the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, NBC, over the imposition of five million naira fine for hate speech.

Lagos-based lawyer, MONDAY UBANI, said the hate speech provision in the new NBC Code does not serve the general good of citizens.

UBANI, who spoke on telephone with our correspondent, said the fine million naira fine is an attempt to put pressure on the media and limit the freedom of speech of citizens.

On the comment by former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, OBADIAH MAILAFIA, MONDAY UBANI said the radio station that conducted the interview does not deserve to be punished.
