Lagos SARS Panel extends sitting to Wednesdays

The Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality has added Wednesdays to its sitting so as to complete its assignment within six months.

At today’s sitting, CSP ADEKUNLE HAKEEM ADETOKUNBO appeared as a police witness in the case of FELICIA OKPARA, who was allegedly assaulted by the policemen from Area C Division in Surulere.

CSP HAKEEM told the panel that a female Police officer whom FELICIA OKPARA claimed assaulted her was cleared of the allegation during an orderly room trial.

In another petition, one SUILEMON RAHEEM appeared before the Panel for the first time to testify that he was shot by a police corporal on January 10, 2016.

RAHEEM identified that the policeman who shot him as Corporal SUNDAY DAVID, adding that he was left on wheelchair for four years until he had a surgery last year.

Also, a film director, TOMORI GBOLAGBEDE, told the Lagos State Judicial Panel how he was allegedly shot by a drunk policeman attached to Dopemu Police Division on September 30, 2012.

TOMORI told the Panel that a Federal High Court in 2015 gave judgment in his favour and awarded various sums of money against the police, but was yet to receive the payment.

Meanwhile; one ESTHER OKORONKWO has petitioned the Lagos State Judicial Panel to demand compensation over alleged killing of her father by the police.

ESTHER told Lasgidi FM’s NAJITE ATIRENE that her father, late SYLVESTER OKORONKWO OGBONNAYA, was shot at close range on October 21, 2020.
