Lagos State nears one million Covid-19 tests

• NCDC confirms 218 new cases in Lagos
• Govt rules out 2nd lockdown

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has confirmed two hundred and eighteen new Covid-19 cases in Lagos State.

The new cases in Lagos are among five hundred and one positive tests reported by the NCDC in thirteen states and Abuja yesterday.

The NCDC said the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria now stands at seventy-eight thousand, four hundred and thirty-four.

It said six-eight thousand, three hundred and three persons in Nigeria have so far recovered from Covid-19, while the disease has killed one thousand, two hundred and twenty-one persons.

Meanwhile; Covid-19 tests done in Lagos State since the outbreak of the pandemic in March now stands at one hundred and ninety-nine thousand, three hundred and thirty-one.

The Commissioner for Health, Professor AKIN ABAYOMI, said the number is based on Covid-19 tests done as of December 17.

Professor ABAYOMI said Eti-Osa Local Government Area has the highest number of positive results, followed by Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Surulere, and Amuwo-Odofin.

In a related development; the Lagos State Government has denied planning to impose a second lockdown on the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, GBENGA OMOTOSO, made this known in reaction to concerns over panic buying of foodstuff and other household items by residents.

Meanwhile, men of the Lagos State Police Command and operatives of the Lagos State Safety Commission have shutdown Cubana nightclub in Ikeja GRA due to alleged violation of Covid-19 guidelines.
