Maj-Gen Leo Irabor becomes Chief of Defence Staff, as President Buhari replaces Service Chiefs

President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has approved the appointment of new Service Chiefs, following the removal of the previous ones.

The new Service Chiefs include Major-General LEO IRABOR as Chief of Defence Staff; Major-General IBRAHIM ATTAHIRU as Chief of Army Staff.

Others are Rear Admiral ZUBAIRU GAMBO as Chief of Naval Staff; while Air-Vice Marshal I.O AMAO steps in as Chief of Air Staff.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, FEMI ADESINA, announced the appointments in a statement.

ADESINA said President BUHARI made the appointment after accepting the immediate resignation and retirement from service of the former Service Chiefs.

They are former Chief of Defence Staff, General ABAYOMI OLONISAKIN; former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General TUKUR BURATAI; former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral IBOK EKWE IBAS; and former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal SADIQUE ABUBAKAR.

ADESINA said President BUHARI thanked the outgoing Service Chiefs for what he described as their overwhelming achievements in efforts at bringing enduring peace to the country, as wished them well in their future endeavours.
