Professor MAHMOOD YAKUBU has stepped down temporarily as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
This marks the completion of Professor YAKUBU’s first term of five years, while his nomination for a second term by President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has not been confirmed by the Senate.
Reports from the INEC headquarters in Abuja indicate that Professor YAKUBU handed over to retired Air Vice Marshal MUAZU AHMED as Acting Chairman of INEC, pending his second term confirmation.
