National Assembly investigate F-SARS complaints

• Hor considers tougher punishment for bad Police

The Senate has ordered investigations into allegations against some officers of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, F-SARS.

The Senate Committees on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters have been charged to investigate the matter.

The Senate decision was based on a Point of Order raised by Senator OLUREMI TINUBU of the Lagos Central Senatorial District.

Senator TINUBU condemned the act of brutality and injustice done against members of the public by the F-SARS operatives.

In the House of Representatives; the lawmakers are proposing an amendment of the 1999 Constitution to deal with the problems associated with the Nigeria Police Force.

The Speaker, FEMI GBAJABIAMILA, said the House would partner with the Nigerian Bar Association and Civil Society Organisations on the amendment.

Speaker GBAJABIAMILA said the amendment would be done to provide for tough punishment for policemen who engage in brutality and extra-judicial killings.

He was speaking during plenary in the Green Chamber following the criticism trailing the activities of operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
