Netherlands returns 600-year old stolen Ife Terracotta

A six hundred-year-old Ife Terracotta that was stolen from Nigeria has been returned from the Netherlands.

The piece of ancient Ife artifact was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, GEOFFREY ONYEAMA, and handed over to the Minister of Information and Culture, LAI MOHAMMED.

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Nigeria, HARRY VAN DIJK, was also present with the Nigerian officials at the handover ceremony in Abuja.

In his remarks; LAI MOHAMMED said the return of the stolen Ife Terracotta marks a milestone in Nigeria’s efforts at recovering the country’s stolen ancient artworks.

On his part; Ambassador of the Netherlands said the return of the Ife Terracotta is a gift to mark the 50th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention on the Prevention of Illicit Trafficking of Cultural Heritage.
