Nigerian Military celebrates success against Bandits in North-West

Nigerian troops have killed a total of eight armed bandits in the ongoing “Operation Sahel Sanity” in the northwestern part of the country.

Troops have also arrested 33 suspected bandits, as well as 14 informants and collaborators within the first month of the operation.

Within the same period of the operation, from July 1 to July 31; the military also rescued 17 kidnapped victims and arrested

Also recovered from the criminal gangs are 7 AK-47 riffles, one General Purpose Machine Gun and 16 Dane guns captured.

Furthermore; 943 cows and 633 sheep that were rustled by the bandits have also been recovered.

Acting Director of Defence Media Operations, Brigadier General BENARD ONYEUKO, made the revelations in a statement obtained by our correspondent.

It reads: “The people of the North-West Zone felt immediate impact of the operation with the tremendous successes achieved within the short period of time. The gallant troops … carried out series of clearance operations, ambushes and other aggressive and confidence building patrols within Sokoto, Katsina and Zamfara States.”

Brigadier General ONYEUKO quoted the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TUKUR BURATAI has commended the troops for their gallantry within the short period of Operation Sahel Sanity.

He said the Army Chief urged them not to rest on their oars, but to continue to do more to completely put an end to the criminal activities across Sokoto, Zamfara and Katsina states.
